The Air Charter Excellence Awards are taking place on November 23rd in Brighton and TAG Aviation is proud to sponsor the category of Aircraft Manufacturer of the Year. Over the next few weeks leading up to the award ceremony, we are looking at each of the nominated manufacturers, including their history, the famous aircraft they produce, and their most significant achievements.

Today, we look at the renowned manufacturer, Airbus.

 

Who is Airbus?

Airbus is a multinational aerospace corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells civil and military aeronautical products worldwide. 

It is one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers known for producing a wide range of commercial and military aircraft and corporate jets.

 

History

Airbus was founded in December 1970 but draws its origins in the late 1960s when European aerospace companies started exploring the possibility of pooling their resources to compete with American aviation giants like Boeing.

These European aerospace companies included France's Aérospatiale, Germany's Deutsche Airbus, Spain's CASA, and the Netherlands' Fokker.

Airbus's first commercial aircraft, the A300, was officially launched in May 1972. The A300 was a wide-body twin-engine airliner designed to carry around 250 passengers and was well-received by airlines due to its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.

In recent years, the company has remained a global leader in aviation. It continues to explore new technologies, such as electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft, to shape the future of air travel.

 

Business Aircraft and Accomplishments

As well as producing commercial aircraft, Airbus also has a subsidiary that manufactures private jets, known as Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ).

ACJ currently offers four families of private jets based on its commercial aircraft, which include the ACJ TwoTwenty, ACJneo (AKA ACJ320), ACJ330neo and ACJ350.

The jets produced are popular for featuring three times more interior space than traditional high-end business jets without being significantly larger externally, with customers benefiting from unequalled comfort, space and freedom of movement.

More than 210 Airbus corporate jets are in service worldwide, flying on every continent, including Antarctica, and more than 1,800 private and business aviation Airbus helicopters are in service worldwide.

 

Airbus' Nomination for ACA
